CPC Students at the GTB Autism Seminar

Students of the Certified Professional Child-Caregiver Program were in attendance at the annual Autism Week organised by Guarantee Trust bank.

The week long event event which kicked off on Monday with a seminar, attracts a range of experts and stakeholders in the field for the purpose of better understanding how best to relate with and cater for those living with the disorder.

It was an opportunity for the students to learn more about the disorder so as to enable them be more knowledgeable caregivers of children with different needs as the case may be. Autism is a neuro-developmental disorder characterized by impaired social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication, and restricted and repetitive behaviour.

This simply means that those with the disorder which is usually present from early childhood have great difficulty in communicating and forming relationship with other people; also, in using language and abstract concepts.

Now every child needs special care, some more than others. That is simply the case with an autistic child.

As a child-caregiver, one needs to understand the different needs of a child and respond effectively.
